A free, browser-based multiplication game built for classrooms — no printing, no prep, no account required.
Multiplication Squares is a digital version of the classic squares game — sometimes called dots-and-boxes — adapted so that every move requires multiplying two numbers together. Players roll dice, find the product on the board, and claim squares by drawing a line on one side. Surround a square completely and it's yours. The player with the most squares when no moves are left wins.
The multiplication happens as part of the game mechanics, not as a separate exercise. Students are hunting for products because they want to claim squares. The math is the engine, not the point — which is why it keeps working even when students know exactly what they're practicing.
Every turn, a player rolls two dice and multiplies the results. They then find a square on the board that matches that product. That means students are doing three things at once:
The strategy layer is what keeps students engaged past the first few minutes. Once they realize they can block opponents or set up future captures, the game stops being about the math and starts being about winning — which is when the math practice happens automatically.
Multiplication Squares works for Grades 1–8 with an adjustable board size. A smaller board covers lower products; a larger board extends to bigger multiplication facts. Pick the size that matches what your class is currently practicing.
It supports 2 to 4 players, which makes it flexible for different classroom formats:
Every other version of multiplication squares requires printed worksheets. Teachers know the routine: find the file, check the printer, cut the sheets, collect the pencils. This version runs in a browser tab. Open it, pick your players, and you're playing in under a minute.
It was built by a former classroom teacher who wanted this game in a digital form that actually worked — no Flash, no broken links, no forced sign-up. No download, no account, no cost. Just the game.
